  • A Moot Point for Wenona - Last week, Portia (Year 12), Isabelle (Year 11) and Paige (Year 11) put their advocacy skills to the test at the National High School Mooting Competition at Bond University in Brisbane, battling it out in front of real judges and barristers.
  • Cadets compete for Chief of Army Trophy - While most of us will be enjoying some well-deserved downtime over the holidays, some of the Wenona and Shore Cadets will be competing in the extremely tough Chief of Army Cadet Team Challenge in wintery Puckapunyal, Victoria.
  • Da Vinci Decathlon: expecting the unexpected - Girls from Junior and Senior School had an opportunity to test their intellectual mettle at the Da Vinci Decathlon 2018 last week, competing against some of the brightest students in Sydney to solve mind-boggling, ‘da Vinci-esque’ challenges.
  • Discovering The Rocks - Year 4 ventured back in time recently to discover more about The Rocks’ rich heritage and history, including early colonial life and Aboriginal culture.
  • Drama Year 10 - Great Expectations - We had ‘great expectations’ of our Year 10 Drama students this week and they didn’t disappoint, bringing Dickens’ story of hope, vanity, snobbery and love to life in two fabulous performances.
  • Family-style art at the MCA - Families from Kindergarten to Year 3 attended Wenona’s inaugural Family Saturday Art Day at the Museum of Contemporary Art recently, for a fun, hands-on and colourful workshop.
  • Golf is par for the course at Wenona - Watch out Karrie Webb! Not only do Miss Minifie’s Year 10 PASS students know all about birdies, bogeys and albatrosses, but they recently taught some Year 6 students how to swing a golf club.
  • Junior School Wheelchair Wheelathon - Across Junior School, students put their wheels in motion this month to raise money and awareness for the Wheelchair for Kids program.
  • Konnichiwa, oh là là and Schuplatten - Language pedagogy has come a long way since the days of chanting “amo, amas, amat”, while trying to master the ablative absolute and the gerundive.
  • Larapinta Trail, Camels and Uluru Adventures - Over the Easter holidays, 14 intrepid Gold Duke of Edinburgh students, headed out bush with Miss Richardson for 10 days of hiking across Central Australia’s Larapinta Trail, riding camels in Alice Springs and experiencing Australia’s red heart, Uluru.
  • Maths, Muffins and Mums - We all appreciate how much our mums do for us, and with Mother’s Day this weekend, what better way for our Junior School students to celebrate their lovely mums than by inviting them into their classrooms!
  • Seed magic at Woodstock - Watching seeds grow is amazing, as our students in Woodstock have discovered this term. In fact, it’s been like having a front row seat to the magic that is plants growing.
  • STEM girls will save the world! - This was the message at our Principal’s Assembly this week, with lots of exciting examples of how our students are exploring STEM education in all its facets.
  • The Global Student: US College Fair - There’s been a significant upturn in the number of our students interested in applying to study overseas, with a great turnout at our recent US College Fair, which was facilitated by Linden Tours.
  • The Holocaust: the power of personal stories - Conveying the depth and detail needed by our students to fully understand the terrible events of the Holocaust is a complex task, and one our History Department approaches carefully and respectfully.
  • Water, water everywhere - Our Year 12 Chemistry students recently travelled to Sydney Water to learn more about chemical monitoring and management.
  • Wenona Alumnae: Women of Spirit - Inspiration was everywhere at our annual Women of Spirit breakfast, with guest speaker, Mrs Catherine West Fouter (1986py) encouraging the audience to always aim high.
  • Wenona Cadets lead the way - Since we introduced our Cadets program last year, it has gone from strength to strength, with Wenona students achieving great success at the Junior and Senior Leaders Course, and with an intake of 35 new students joining the recent induction program.
  • Wenona commemorates Anzac Day - This week, Wenona commemorated Anzac Day at our Principal’s Assembly for both Senior and Junior School.
  • Wenona does the Maths - Our Maths Department has been busy this term, with a fun-filled incursion to promote collaboration and critical thinking, and an excursion to UNSW, which placed a career in Maths on student horizons.
  • Year 5 embrace Chinese culture - The magical world of Chinese lion dancing, Chinese instruments and traditional Chinese bracelet making came to Wenona recently and our Year 5 girls loved every moment.
  • Year 6: Peer Support - ‘Optimism’ is the key focus of our Year 6 Peer Support program this term, and judging by Courtney, Chloe and Brielle’s huge smiles yesterday, Hooke House is full of happy and positive energy.
  • Year 8 Camp at Berowra Waters - Year 8 recently headed north to camp in the spectacular bushland of Berowra Waters on the mighty Hawkesbury River.
