Let’s get physical

Last week, Ms McFetridge and Ms Grun’s Year 10 PASS students got physical, when Ali Cavill from Fit Fantastic put them through their paces in our new Cardio Gym in The Athenaeum.

HR Expert, Master Trainer, Nutrition Coach, and owner of Fit Fantastic, Ali Cavill is passionate about inspiring people to ‘Just Get Moving’ in order to achieve optimum health. This term, our Year 10 PASS students are participating in a unit of work around ‘Physical Fitness and Exercise Prescription’.

In this unit, students learn to analyse the contribution of physical fitness to participation and performance and apply this to the components of fitness. Through practical application students measure and evaluate fitness and design specific training programs based on the principles of training, safety and injury prevention.

Last week, Year 10 PASS students were put through a rapid-fire routine of sit-ups, push-ups, planks and squats, as well as cardio, all designed to increase their strength, stamina and flexibility.

Judging by the laughter and concentration on the students’ faces, they all had a great time. And they were also thrilled to have an opportunity to work out in Wenona’s new training facilities.

Everyone enjoyed Ali’s energy and enthusiasm… although there were a few red faces by the end of her routine.

Ms McFetridge said, "The students are currently investigating the principles of training. By participating in a range of different physical activities, they are developing their understanding of how and why we move and how we can enhance the quality and enjoyment of movement. This unit has helped to reinforce the importance of physical activity and positive health habits, equipping the students to manage their health and fitness in an informed and purposeful manner."

Next week, they students will be testing whether they’ve improved their fitness levels. Watch this space!
