Let’s be Fear-less!
This week at our Principal’s Assembly, the new Prefect Initiative for 2019/2020 was unveiled, with a hilarious video to promote being ‘Fear-less’!
Head Prefect, Amelia, along with Vice Head Prefects, Poppy and Jasmine, played a short video to introduce each member of the Prefect body for 2019/2020. It was an entertaining - and tongue-in-cheek - way of introducing their roles and responsibilities while gently poking fun at the things, people and situations that induced fear in them.
The video started off with Year 6 to 7 Prefects, China and Greta. Apparently, ‘non rangas’ are what these two redheads fear most! There followed a hilarious clip of them springing into doorways to hide from their brunette and blond counterparts. This was followed by Year 7 to 8 Prefects, Sophie and Lara who fear Tik Tok - cue them fleeing away from Year 7s recording a clip in the garden. Year 8 to 9 Prefects, Jade and Mina apparently fear gathos, Year 9 to 10 Prefects, Millie and Lucy fear doing work and Performing Arts Prefect, Addy, (understandably) fears Director of Performing Arts, Ms Lemon! Sport Prefect, Sophie fears balls and was filmed dodging a barrage of balls in the School Gym. And there was a hysterical clip of Boarding Prefect, Georgia, who fears cities, accidently going into Monte before returning to the safety of the Wenona Boarding House where she stared happily out through the security bars of the top floor window. For Service Learning Prefects, Grace and Maddy, waste was their fear. Whilst for Vice Head Prefects, Poppy and Jasmine, their fear was no other than Head Prefect, Amelia who was too busy hiding from her biggest fear, Head of Senior College, Mrs Kerr. All in all, the video was a very clever way of introducing each prefect and really bringing the new initiative to life.
Here is what Amelia, Poppy and Jasmine had to say about ‘Fear-less’ at Assembly:
“Good morning everyone! We’d like to introduce our new Prefect Initiative for 2019/2020. And for the girls in Year 7 - or for anyone else who has no idea what a Prefect Initiative actually is - it’s something we hope to highlight and implement in our community throughout the coming year. So, to kick start it off, we put together a quick video to encapsulate our message. After watching it, we hope you’ve started to be ‘fear-less’ about everything too.
So why ‘Fear-less’? Well, we wanted an initiative that captured the diversity and spirit of Wenona. That encouraged girls to confidently step up. And that focused on girls being able to kindly go about their day without feeling the pressure of judgement or self-doubt. And to fear less!
So, we came up with the idea of ‘Fear-less’, a message that we hope will help to foster an encouraging and supportive environment. Our vision for ‘Fear-less’ is for girls to be brave and to step out of their comfort zones, knowing that they’re not alone when doing so. No matter how big or small your fear, we hope that through this initiative, everyone can find a way to ‘fear less’!
We hope this little play on words echoes our message that bravery or kindness doesn’t have to be something extraordinary and by simply attempting to ‘fear less’, that is success in our eyes. Our aim is to hear from many girls, sparking a range of real conversations, as we want this to be a place for girls to feel comfortable to share their stories and challenges, even the tough ones. So, over the coming year, we hope you all embrace this initiative and all you incredible girls who are already fearless, begin to fear even less. Thank you!”
