Peter Pan: Faith, trust and pixie dust
Last weekend, girls in Years 3 to 6 took the second star to the right and flew straight on 'til morning in their magical musical performance of Disney Peter Pan Jr. at Chatswood Concourse theatre.
Most of us love the fantasy of never growing old. And our incredible Junior School students made this possible in all four performances of their musical last weekend, with their enchanting trip to Neverland.
Wenona’s production was unashamedly a female-focused take on J.M. Barrie’s classic story, with lots of strong, brave female characters who were more than capable of fighting their own battles in true Wenona style!
For the adults in the audience, it was a chance to relive their youth and revisit “that place between sleep and wake, the place where you can still remember dreaming.”
For the younger members of the audience, there was plenty of action to capture their imagination as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell flew into battle against the dastardly Captain Cook.
There were fairies.
And pirates.
And Native Americans.
And a whole cast of Lost Boys.
And who could forget the crocodile! There were shrieks of delight every time the crocodile rolled across the stage, with its familiar ‘tick tock’. After all, everyone knows that you “never smile at a crocodile.” Nor should you be “taken in by his welcome grin” because “he’s imagining how well you’d fit within his skin.”
Director of Performing Arts, Ms Lemon was delighted with the production.
“We have had some wonderful parent feedback and lots of happy little faces after four amazing shows with two different casts of students!
The Concourse staff said we are the most polite, neat and organised group to go through their stage door and that is such awesome feedback.
And all thanks to you! Thank you for getting on board this giant event and helping it to become such a fantastic experience for all the girls and their families!”
We are incredibly grateful to all the staff, parents and Senior School students who gave of their time, talent and energy to bring this production of Peter Pan to the stage.
And of course, Wenona is incredibly proud of the professionalism and commitment of the cast. Their performance was definitely sprinkled with pixie dust. Well done!
In the words of Peter Pan, “Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough.”
