The Joys of Debating Camp
Do you prefer Birkenstocks to hiking boots, paper cuts to leeches and roast dinner to freeze-dried chicken cooked on a Trangia?
Debating camp is a fun, friendly camp atmosphere where you and your adidas Superstars will feel right at home. And guess what? You don’t even have to leave the North Shore! Nestled in the tranquil bush just off the highway in Lane Cove, with mum, dad and Wenona just a stone’s throw away, you’ll be right at home.
Sound like an ideal getaway? Well that’s just what 68 girls did last weekend as we embarked on the annual debating camp.
With a disco dance party that would rival your dad’s 50th, a screening of the one and only Parent Trap on the outdoor cinema, and 67 of your closest friends to argue with, what more could you want?
In all seriousness, I think that any of the girls who went would agree that debating camp this year was really worthwhile, and we all learnt a lot from our dedicated coaches who ran workshops and gave us tips on how to outsmart and outargue any GPS school of your choice in the season to come.
The infamous Year 12 debate was on the topic of female representation on sports commentary panels, an impassioned argument for us budding renaissance women, if you will.
With the ISDA debating competition starting this Friday, our debaters are prepped and pepped for a great season ahead.
A massive thank you to Miss Karsten for organising, and to all the teachers that came along.
Clare (Year 12)
