Anyone for tennis?
As some of you may be aware from the Wenona School Sports’ Instagram frenzy, the Wenona Tildesley Tennis Squad went on a tour to Melbourne from the 15-17 of January 2018.
It was an exciting three days, filled with watching some incredible tennis matches at the Australian Open, chasing around tennis players for autographs, training sessions, fitness sessions, 40-degree heat, sweat, tears and Roger Federer!
One of the many highlights of our trip was our Australian Open night session, when we arrived dressed in Australian T-shirts, cork hats and faces coated in green and yellow zinc. We were also lucky enough to watch Australia’s top-ranked woman, Ashleigh Barty, play her first round match in the Rod Laver arena.
The trip was a great bonding experience for our team, while also allowing us to gain inspiration from the professionals and work on our tennis skills for our upcoming Tildesley Tennis competition. We finished off our trip with some practice matches played against Wesley College on their home grounds. This gave us an opportunity to apply what we’ve learned in training - and channel our inner Roger Federer!
On behalf of the whole team, we would like to thank the School for this amazing opportunity, as well as our coaches, Lenny and Craig, and our fabulous teachers, Ms Howe, Mr Gasparinatos and Ms Waine for accompanying us on this trip.
