Stretch of the imagination

Eureka WEB NEWS TEMPLATE2

Every term, three girls from each of the Years 1-6 are invited to attend the Eureka program run by G.A.T.E. WAYS with specialists’ workshops – usually on science, mathematics or literature. This week, two Eureka days held at Loreto school were about literature, imagination and how they work together.

The Years 1-3 workshops saw Anna Jahjah share her mysterious Arabian stories. Tracy Forbes helped students stretch their own stories into entertaining, unbelievably ‘tall’ tales.  In Megan Burlington’s workshop, the girls explored mythical creatures from around the world and created their own mythical characters for magical stories.

Years 4-6 students pondered plot turns and the mechanics of mysteries and whodunnits with Kate Walther. Back to the future they went with Anna Jahjah after she explained space travel was unbelievable before rockets were invented (so who knows what’s possible) – and invited them to  create the future of humanity. With help from Emily Taylor, they brought Gulliver’s Travels to a new land they created with mime, movement, characterisation and voice – a land where giants roam, horses talk and even islands fly.
