Moved to verse
A trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art on Thursday morning impressed Year 8 visual arts students with insights into artists’ creativity and conceptual frameworks.
One student was moved to verse by an artwork by contemporary Indigenous artist Daniel Boyd which touches on themes of navigation by night skies – used by Indigenous explorers more than 2000 years ago and by Portuguese explorers 500 years ago.
Anne wrote a verse about Boyd’s work, from the viewpoint of an Indigenous explorer:
"There are holes in history,
People don’t share the knowledge of my ancestors,
Their past, my past
Where I come from is slowly
being erased by the minds of the privileged."
