Learning ways with liquid colour

Textiles yr9 WEB NEWS TEMPLATE4

Inspired by liquid paints created for fabrics, Year 9 Textiles Technology class carefully released droplets of marbling paint onto trays of gel then swirled and raked them before soaking up the pattern with fabric. All sorts of abstracts resulted – including a beautiful peacock-feather pattern. At another table, artists used heat-transfer paints to colour their line-drawings on paper before neatly heat-setting these onto fabrics which would otherwise be hard to paint. These and more textile art techniques go into each student’s ‘process book’ on which they’ll later rely when doing major works, whether apparel or something else. Next up, they’ll learn to hand-make felt and produce a 3D felted sculpture.
