Budding filmmakers win people’s choice award

30 Aug 2016

Budding Year 8 filmmakers Chiara and Claudia won the People’s Choice award for Interrelate’s NSW Film Festival for High Schools at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.

Chiara and Claudia’s film, Your Space, Our Space, based on the theme ‘Cyberbullying – the effect and how we solve it’ was screened alongside seven other shortlisted films at AFTRS on Friday 12 August, 2016.

Set in the girls’ bathroom, where, according to the girls, ‘anything can happen’, their film traces how the actions of the bully and victim stay with them. Chiara says she hopes the message of how cyberbullying affects people will make an impact.

The competition was open to High School students across New South Wales, and the girls were announced as the People’s Choice award on Tuesday 30 August, 2016.

“The experience was both challenging and insightful,” Chiara said. “Winning the People’s Choice award was such a great reward for all the hard work we put into the film.”
