A Celebration of Wenona
The biggest event in Wenona’s History: a celebration of community, talent, and legacy.
The energy was unmistakable as thousands of guests arrived at the ICC, welcomed by impressive Wenona signage that set an inspiring tone for the evening ahead. This monumental event, the largest in Wenona’s history, was the culmination of meticulous preparation, from countless rehearsals to final costume touches and logistical support. With everything in place, the night to celebrate Wenona had arrived.
The evening was a powerful tribute to Wenona’s journey from 2011 to 2024, honouring our extraordinary Principal, Dr Briony Scott, whose leadership will leave an enduring imprint.
Performances across poetry, drama, Taiko drumming, music, and dance illuminated the School’s spirit and showcased the students’ remarkable talent and passion. Nicole, Year 9, left the audience in awe with a breathtaking performance of Polonaise de Concert in D Major, Op. 4 on the violin, while the Kindergarten to Year 2 choir warmed hearts with their charming rendition of Sing A Little Song. Moving poems and speeches by students, Victoria (Year 2), Sophia (Year 4), and Antonia (Year 10), brought an added depth of emotion to the evening, highlighting the thoughtful reflections of Wenona’s young voices.
Among the highlights was a stirring piano composition, On the Shoulders of Giants, by Alumna, Christine Pan (2015), commissioned by Wenona to honour Dr Scott’s impactful leadership. Performed by Year 11 student, Nicole, this original work was accompanied by a moving film documenting Dr Scott’s journey from a Year 5 Wenona student to her tenure as Principal, evoking heartfelt memories and admiration.
Following an eloquent tribute by Board Chair, Ms Catherine West, Dr Scott was presented with a captivating artwork by Alumna, Xanthe Muston (2017). The piece, depicting a typical day on Wenona’s leafy grounds, reflects the School’s transformation under Dr Scott's guidance, showcasing the new buildings and architecture that embody her lasting legacy. This artwork also features Dr Scott imparting wisdom to a student, symbolising her profound impact on the School’s physical and spiritual growth.
The theme for the night revolved around Wenona’s core Values—Courage, Strength, Grace, Wisdom, and Kindness—introduced by Dr Scott and integral to the Wenona experience. Former Head Prefects shared touching stories of Dr Scott’s influence, noting how these Values have inspired them to embrace empathy, resilience, and the ‘Renaissance Woman’ ideal, essential to every Wenona student’s journey.
The grand finale was nothing short of spectacular, with a vibrant light show representing each School House and the Wenona Rock Band leading a powerful medley. This was followed by an all-school performance of Fight Song, Brave, and Roar, ending with the spirited School song—a fitting close to this memorable celebration of unity and pride.
A heartfelt thank you to our exceptional students, whose dedication and passion transformed the evening into a true celebration of Wenona. Their professionalism and spirit shone brightly, making this historic night unforgettable.
