Gratitude
Newly appointed 2024 to 2025 Head Prefect, Zara, delivered her inaugural speech in Assembly this week, extending heartfelt thanks to the Student Leaders who have expertly guided the School throughout this academic year.
Good morning Dr Scott, teachers, and students,
My name is Zara, and I am Wenona’s new Head Prefect. It gives me great pleasure to pay tribute to and thank the outgoing Student Leadership Team of 2023 to 2024.
To the Executive Team, Prefect body, House Captains, Sports Captains, Global Captains, Arts Captains, and Cadet Leaders, thank you. You have taught us what it means to ‘Celebrate to Elevate’, you have taught us the importance of ‘dancing it out’, getting involved, and the joy of laughter and good humour. You have demonstrated service, leadership, and sacrifice. But more importantly, you have demonstrated a sense of community.
What we hear quite often at School, is the importance of leaving a legacy. I think the Class of 2024 will leave a brilliant legacy, one defined by infectious energy and the spirit of lifting others up, only equalled by their ability to make positive change and impact our community. So, I think, in summation, your valuing of community has created a spirit of family here at Wenona; the kind of family that fills our walkways with colourful chalk messages and stages dance parties in the Undercroft.
You have produced a lasting impact and left very large shoes for the Class of 2025 to fill.
To the Executive Team; Dariia, Litia, and Sasha: the smallest gestures, such as a simple smile in the hallway or attending a music concert, have meant so much to us and our spirit of community. Just know that we appreciate all that you have done – both the big and the little.
To Head Prefect, Mali; you epitomise what it means to be a Wenonian. Your commitment to School life is astounding, yet you have always found the time to lead our School with courage, strength, grace, wisdom, and kindness. From your contribution to Cadets, STEM and Sport, your involvement and leadership of Science Club, and in academics, we really do not know how you do it. The list seems endless. But what I think does not always get mentioned is your vibrant energy – it is contagious and should never be underestimated. I will forever look up to you. You are a treasure within our School and it is safe to say, we have found the person we would catch a grenade for.
To the cohort of 2024; we love you, we thank you, and we promise to always ‘Celebrate to Elevate’ in your honour. As the end of your School journey approaches, we want you to know that you have the whole of Wenona walking alongside you, because that is what family does.
Good luck Year 12, we wish you all the best in your HSC Trials.
Thank you.
