Celebrating Our Boarders
This week, we celebrated National Boarding Week with our amazing boarding community.
National Boarding Week is a time to shine a light on our boarders, celebrating the diversity, culture, and tight-knit community that we have fostered here at Wenona.
During the week, our boarders had the chance to share some of their experiences with their peers and staff members, through a series of afternoon tea sessions. Students were asked to invite a staff member to enjoy afternoon tea to show their appreciation of their teachers.
On Tuesday, our Boarder Prefect and Boarder Captain, Gemma and Bianca, presented at the Principal’s Assembly. They spoke about their experiences as boarders, and how their fellow housemates have helped them overcome obstacles in their lives, from homesickness to the passing of treasured pets, and elevated them to be the best versions of themselves. They asked the audience to reflect on their past tough moments in life with fondness, as these experiences have made them the person they are today. We were also treated to an incredible performance from the boarders’ band, The BoHo Band, who played Adele’s Rolling in the Deep! Within seconds, the audience was clapping along, and before long both staff and students were on their feet dancing to the fantastic singing and playing of the band! The performance ended with a standing ovation and a huge cheer (head over to our Facebook or Instagram page to view the performance.)
At lunchtime on Tuesday, a barbeque took place, that raised money for Lymphoma Australia, a cause that is close to the hearts of our entire Wenona community, as the much-loved Head of Boarding, Ms Ayling, sadly lost her husband to lymphoma cancer in 2022. The barbeque, featuring a sausage sizzle and drink meal deal for $5, was a wonderful way for boarders to bring the whole school together for a worthy cause.
In a rare moment of quiet during the week, we sat down with some of our boarders, to find out more about what they enjoy about boarding at Wenona.
