Passing Out Parade

The annual Passing Out Parade is a chance to pay tribute to the remarkable contribution of students who are graduating from the Shore Cadet Unit (SCU).

This year, the Welcome speech was delivered by the Senior Under Officer, CUO Annabelle (Year 12), from Wenona. Her speech is reproduced below:

“Welcome to the Shore Cadet Unit’s (SCU) 116th Annual Ceremonial Parade. The 2023-2024 SCU cohort has continued a legacy of leadership, strong character building and stewardship for all of those involved in the Cadet Unit. Based upon the Australian Army Cadets’ core values of Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Excellence, and the SCU’s motto of Shining through Service, the Cadet program aims to build and empower young people to lead and serve others in an adventurous outdoor education program.

There have been many opportunities for members of the Unit to develop their leadership skills, whether at a Monday training session, on our various camps and at significant events such as the ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Ceremonies. The SCU’s motto of service is central to all aspects of the Unit and significantly directs the course of our outdoor learning. The Bivouac and the Annual Field Exercise camps throughout the past year, have challenged cadets to step outside their comfort zones and immerse themselves in a unique and engaging environment.

Today is a time to celebrate and farewell the outgoing Year 12 Cadets, who have generously contributed their time and service within the SCU for both its members and the wider community. The Annual Ceremonial Parade marks the conclusion of the Cadet year and in doing so, we celebrate the achievements of our peers and the skills we have gained along the way.

On the Parade Ground today, all Sections, Platoons and Companies unite as one Unit, marching under the leadership of the Year 12 Cadets one final time. Congratulations and thank you to all Cadets, staff, parents and friends of the Unit for your determination, support and dedication.

I hope you enjoy today’s Annual Ceremonial Parade as a celebration of the 2023-2024 cadet year.”
