Enriching Experiences
The Wenona Clubs Showcase took over the Undercroft recently, as club leaders passionately spruiked their offerings to entice a fresh wave of members.
Clubs provide an enriching environment for students to cultivate skills and interests that extend far beyond academic performance. With such a wide variety to choose from, it is definitely not your average school experience. Here is a brief overview of some of the opportunities available:
The Amnesty International Club is a passionate group dedicated to promoting human rights, social justice, and staying informed about current affairs. It strives to create awareness and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by marginalised communities worldwide.
The Animal Welfare Club focuses on raising awareness and advocating for animal welfare. Students use their regular meetings to discuss their shared passion for animals of all kinds, raise money for animal welfare charities, and channel their passion into meaningful action.
The Busking Club provides a platform for musically inclined students to showcase their talents and entertain their peers on Fridays at lunchtime in the Undercroft. This club builds confidence among its members as well as stage presence and a sense of belonging within the School community, as students use performing for their peers as a way to really step outside their comfort zone!
The Creative Arts Club provides a supportive environment where students can freely express themselves, unleash their imagination, and collaborate with fellow artists. Its members also run School-wide activities to encourage artistic endeavour amongst the entire student population, including those who need to build confidence in their abilities.
The Cru Club provides an opportunity for its members to live out their Christian faith on campus. They come together to read and discuss Bible passages while gaining leadership opportunities and the chance to receive support and grow in their faith.
Environment Club members plan initiatives to reduce Wenonians' environmental impact and inspire them to live lives that tread lightly on the earth. They explore the causes of global warming and follow the latest international efforts to address the climate crisis. Their most significant activity for 2024 will be a student film competition.
The Gender Equity Group spreads awareness of gender issues both internationally and domestically. Members discuss gender news and create initiatives promoting an equitable playing field for anyone of any gender.
The Global Diversity Club celebrates and promotes the diversity of cultures and abilities on campus. It often has a particular focus on Aboriginal rights, and authentic festival celebrations, as well as finding creative ways to communicate the importance of valuing diversity and avoiding stereotypes.
Knit and Stitch members help keep the homeless warm by knitting squares and making blankets for the organisation Wrap with Love. The club is a haven for creative minds and those with a passion for handicrafts. Its lunchtime meetings are a therapeutic and relaxing space where students can find common ground and know they are doing something worthwhile.
The Pride Alliance Club is a safe space for LGBTQ+ students and allies to come together, share experiences, and promote inclusivity within the School community. It organises events, discussions, and awareness campaigns, fostering a supportive environment for every kind of student.
Production Crew is for those interested in theatre and production, offering an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of stage management, lighting, sound, and set design. Students work behind the scenes to bring Wenona productions to life, developing valuable teamwork, problem-solving, and organisational skills. This club also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and friendship among its members.
The Science Club is an enthusiastic group of students who share a deep passion for scientific exploration and discovery. During lunchtime, they gather in the Science labs to conduct a wide range of experiments, deepening their understanding of scientific concepts and fostering a hands-on approach to learning.
The W Student News Club allows students to unleash their creativity through journalism, photography, and graphic design. Members collaborate to produce a high-quality publication that showcases the diverse talents and perspectives of the Wenona community. It is a platform for students to not only hone their storytelling skills but also express their opinions and make their voices heard.
Wenona’s thriving club culture is one of the School's most valuable assets, providing numerous student leadership opportunities and fostering relationships across year groups from Years 7 to 12. Which club will you join?
