Brighter Day
On Friday 23 February, Wenona became a riot of colour as the Prefects led a day of vibrant activities to support Brighter Day, raising awareness and funds to fight youth suicide.
The key organiser was Community Service Prefect, Jemima (Year 12). “We chose to direct our efforts towards the organisation Youth Insearch, which hosts mentoring programs and camps to support young people through their teenage years. Its particular focus is helping young people recover from difficult situations including abusive environments,” Jemima said. “Anti-suicide campaigns hold importance in today's world because it is a subject that is often not talked about. Youth Insearch describes it as an ‘invisible pandemic’ because it impacts so many families. It is really important to continue to raise awareness.”
Brighter Day at Wenona began with the sale of colourful ribbons at the gate. During morning tea, the sale of colourful cupcakes added a burst of flavour. The fun was rounded off at lunchtime with a dance party in the Undercroft, and infectious tunes filling the campus grounds.
“It was such a bright and colourful day, encouraging inclusivity and fun and we are so glad to have been able to help Youth Insearch in its important work,” Jemima said.
