Future Proof
Empowering Year 10 Students for Success.
The Wenona Future Proof Program represents a proactive approach to preparing Year 10 students for the rigours of Senior College and their lives post-graduation. The comprehensive four-week schedule has been curated to provide far-reaching skills from academic enrichment to personal growth. A key component is real-world activities, both on and off campus, to allow students to explore various industries and professions.
“Another highlight has been the opportunity for the students to participate in a ‘Learning Sprint’ to teach them the latest approaches to effective and fast collaboration,” said the Head of Senior College, Ms Santina Restuccia. The concept is based on Design Sprint, which was first introduced at Google to rapidly progress from a problem to a solution through the application of a proven step-by-step checklist. “It was an effective way to introduce Year 10 to elements of business strategy, innovation, behavioural science, and design thinking.”
Other activities completed so far include Driver Education Day at RYDA in St Ives and Dressed for Success Day, where they learned the importance of presenting themselves professionally and creating a winning CV.
“The program also emphasises community and environmental responsibility and physical and mental wellness,” said Year 10 Coordinator, Ms Phoebe Oakley. Examples include a service day at Our Big Kitchen, a beach clean-up at Bondi and Tamarama, and a walk from Manly to the Spit. “These experiences not only foster a sense of belonging and teamwork but leadership skills,” Ms Oakley added.
The Class of 2024 has also played a significant role in supporting their younger peers. They helped to organise and facilitate Stepping up to Senior College Day, an event that provided Year 10 with insights and advice on how to approach individual subjects, balance study and wellbeing, and set realistic expectations for their final years of school.
Throughout the four weeks, the students will be attending Learning and Feedback Days, to reflect on their experiences and receive guidance from teachers and peers. These sessions provide a valuable platform for students to discuss their goals, challenges, and aspirations as they prepare for their future.
The Future Proof Program will culminate in an Upper School Celebration Assembly, where the accomplishments and growth of the Year 10 cohort will be acknowledged and celebrated.
“The Future Proof Program is a testament to Wenona’s commitment to providing a supportive and nurturing environment for our students, as they navigate this pivotal stage of their educational journey,” said Ms Oakley.
