Charity Chic
Wenona Senior School students transformed their pre-loved clothes into tools for female empowerment this week, with Take 2 Fashion, a charity event supporting Dress for Success.
The fun flowed in the Undercroft on Tuesday and Wednesday, as girls from Years 7 to 12 eagerly browsed through racks of second-hand clothes, helping each other pick out stylish outfits for their next fashion moment.
Year 11 student, Ava, and her Senior School peers organised the event to support Dress for Success, an international not-for-profit organisation providing support, professional attire, and development tools for women working towards economic independence.
The idea for Take 2 Fashion was born from Ava's realisation that she and her friends had a treasure trove of clothes they no longer needed and a captive audience of fellow students in the Wenona Senior School. With enthusiastic promotion from representatives of each House and a presentation by Ava in Assembly, donations poured in from Years 7 to 12.
"For some women, re-entering the workforce can be challenging due to the lack of clothes that will help them look professional during job interviews,” Ava said. “We want to help increase their chances of getting jobs."
The buzzing atmosphere was a testament to the girls' commitment to making a difference in the lives of local women and fostering a sense of sisterhood and solidarity.
