Spring Fair
After a three-year wait and under the bluest sunny sky, the crowds started pouring through the gates well before opening time for our Spring Fair on Saturday 10 September, filling the grounds to bursting point and remaining heavy throughout the day.
Sideshow alley was a hub of concentration, as younger patrons tried to outwit the laughing clowns, land their quoit on the spoke, or topple each other in an ‘It’s a Knockout!’ joust.
The fruit stall attracted long queues for its fresh, natural treats (and funny fruit hats), the bookstall featured some surprise literary gems, and visitors were in stitches over at the photo booth stand.
The auction featured glamorous prizes, including stays in tempting beach houses, gym memberships and even an exclusive lunch with Dr Scott and the deputies.
As always, face painting proved a hit with the younger set, with everything from big cats, to bee and butterfly designs in high demand.
Also popular were the elegant artisanal gifts provided by the external stall holders, including headwear and scarves, quality wrapping paper and fresh flowers.
Every morsel of food proved delicious, from the gozleme to the Asian treats, cupcakes, lollies and specialty teas.
Our talented Performing Arts students attracted huge audiences and filled passing shoppers with joy.
Our Enrolments Team hosted the Athenaeum Open House in West Commons - conceived to provide a taste of Wenona life for future students and their families. It also attracted large numbers of current families who due to COVID, had not had the chance to visit the School before. Included in the schedule were experiments and academic displays in the Science rooms, hot-out-of-the-oven treats from our Hospitality students and impressive Sport and Performing Arts students displays.
The Aquatic Centre was a hub of determination as generations of Wenona swimmers performed lap after lap to raise money for the Black Dog Institute during our inaugural 12-Hr Mental Fitness Swim. They raised more than $8,000 and increased understanding about how to boost mental fitness through a fantastic wellbeing workshop led by Wenona alumna and two-time Olympian Hannah Buckling (2009).
The always beautiful Wenona Alumnae Art Show attracted strong crowds throughout the day. The Hall walls were lined with stunning works for sale, with proceeds contributing to a bursary fund. Many visitors found them hard to resist, snapping up paintings, photographs, and sculptures to grace their homes.
