Snowsports Success
Wenona’s State Interschools Team takes out the Secondary Female Overall Cup.
Wowing us all with a stunning haul of nine medals and 16 top six placings, the Wenona State Interschools Team has claimed the Secondary Female Overall Cup, at the recent State Interschools Snowsports Championships in Perisher. Twenty-three Wenona students have now been selected to represent the School at next week’s National Interschools Championships.
Despite challenging conditions caused by wild wind and hail, the first day of official competition provided some great Wenona results. Our Division 4 Ski Cross Team claimed a silver medal and our Alpine Team placed fourth. The Division 3 Slopestyle Team came second, and Amelie (Year 10) came fourth in Division 2. Violet, Charlotte and Sophia (all Year 3) also embraced the tough conditions in their Division 5 Alpine race. In the Amelia McGuiness Memorial Cross Country Race, Chloe (Year 9) came third.
More chilly conditions due to a big fall of snow overnight didn’t deter further Wenona success on Day 2, with our Snowboard Cross Team finishing fifth and Year 5 student Ruby finishing 11th in the Division 4 Moguls.
Day 3 was full of excitement for our Cross Country competitors, with our Division 2 Team A students Chloe (Year 9), Ava (Year 10) and Jemma (Year 10), achieving double gold in both the Relay and Classic races. Ava collected a gold medal in the Individual Classic Race; our Division 2 Team B competitors did well to finish fourth in both races, while our Division 3 Team of Larissa and Saskia (both Year 6) also came fourth in the Classic Race. Amelie (Year 10) and Jennifer (Year 11) competed strongly in the Division 1 Moguls and our Division 3 Snowboard GS team placed fourth.
On Day 4, the Wenona Division 2 Alpine Team of Amelie (Year 10), Ava (Year 10), Jemma (Year 10), and Katie (Year 9) won the silver medal, our Division 3 Moguls Team of Leni (Year 8), Saskia (Year 7) and Sophie (Year 8), took bronze, and our Division 3 Ski Cross Team placed fourth.
On the final day of competition, the medals continued to roll in, with a gold medal for our Division 3 Alpine Team of Olivia (Year 7), Leni (Year 8), Scarlett (Year 8), and Sophie (Year 8), and a bronze for our Division 2 Ski Cross students (Amelie, Jemma and Ava).
Now it’s all systems go as we head into the national competition, full of anticipation of some further great results!
