Swimmers make a splash at CIS
Wenona competed in the CIS Swimming Championships at Homebush this week. Head Swim Coach, Mr Michael Creighton was there to support the students, who all performed incredibly well.
Mr Creighton said, “The event started with the All age 6 x 50m freestyle relay. Wenona was narrowly pipped for 4th place. The team should be incredibly proud of the swim as they improved on their IGSA time by 3.5 seconds. The team consisted of Eliza (Year 7), Isabel (Year 7), Tilly (Year 8), Elise (Year 9), Lily (Year 10) and Grace (Year 12).
Following the success of the relay, Wenona had three swimmers in the 50m Freestyle. Kira (Year 7) competed in the 13yrs race and finished in 5th place, with a time of 28.77, which was a personal best for her. Alexandra (Year 7) also competed in the 13yrs race and finished in 8th place, with a time of 29.71. Isabella (Year 10) competed in the 16yrs race and finished in 4th place, with a time of 27.80, also achieving a personal best time.

Georgia (Year 8) competed in the 15&U multiclass events, with great success across all three events. First up was the 50m freestyle, with Georgia finishing in 6th place with a personal best time. Her second event was the 100m Freestyle where she achieved a 7 second personal best time and finished in 2nd place. The final race of the afternoon was the 50m backstroke where she finished in 5th place.

All swimmers should be very happy with the results and efforts. They are continuing to improve and the School is going from strength to strength in the pool and developing into a formidable force across all age groups.
Finally, the Balmoral Swim for the Children’s Cancer Council was rescheduled to this weekend. On Sunday 2 May, Wenona will have 9 teams competing at Balmoral beach. We wish them every success on the day.â€
