Spring Fair and Art Show
It was a wonderful weekend for the Wenona community, with the Wenona Alumnae Associationâs Art Show and the Wenona Parentsâ Associationâs Spring Fair.
The Wenona Alumnae Association organised an Art Show to showcase the talents of our talented alumnae, parents and students. All artworks sold contributed to the Alumnae Associationâs Scholarship Program.
In the lead up to the Art Showâs opening night on Friday, established artist, Mrs Kate Clarkson ran two incredibly popular Artist-in-Residence workshops, so that students and their parents could come together and paint. The theme of the Art Show was âReflectionsâ, which inspired all sorts of creativity from parents and daughters. The workshops proved a unique and immersive experience, with one parent saying it was the most relaxing and meditative activity theyâd done for a long time.
More than 100 people came to the opening night on Friday, with speeches from Art Show Coordinator and Vice President of the Wenona Alumnae Association, Mrs Fiona Nix (Corbett, 1981), Artist-in-Residence, Mrs Kate Clarkson and Principal Dr Briony Scott, who officially opened the Art Show. Music students provided beautiful background music, helping to create a soothing ambience. Art lovers enjoyed the opportunity to meet with the individual artists and chat to them about their work.
On Saturday â after weeks of hard work and organisation by the Wenona Parentsâ Association Spring Fair Committee, which was spearheaded by Mrs Trish Lunn - the biennial Wenona Spring Fair was finally here. And better still, the day began with glorious blue skies and sunshine.
Each year group organised a stall, with the Year 9 barbeque stall proving popular, along with the Year 8 cake stall, the Year 2 Fairy Floss and Sno-cones, the Year 10 Lucky Wheel and the Alumnae Café.
However, it is always hard to compete with our accomplished boarding families, whose homemade jams, pickles, biscuits and wood-turned bowls from the Snowy Mountains proved crowd pleasers as always!
Year 3 had a beautiful flower stall, fresh from the markets and elsewhere, there were lots of stalls with stylish baskets, scarves, cushions and wrapping paper.
There was a huge queue for the Dunk Tank â funny that! - with the opportunity to dunk Assistant Head of English, Mr Whitehouse into the drink in his suit (complete with pink floatie) tempting many students!
There were jumping castles, face painting stalls and for our thirsty parents, an Aperol Spritz stall! And our Junior School Gardening Club proudly sold their herbs and vegetables, which theyâve been carefully growing since last term, despite our very hungry resident brush turkey, Mr Turkey Lurkey eating quite a few of their green beans.
For those who hadnât been able to attend the Art Show on the Friday night, there was an opportunity to view and buy the artwork in the hall.
As Director of Foundation, Mrs Sonia Brennan said, âThe Spring Fair is a wonderful way for us to come together as a community to have fun and raise money for means-tested scholarships. It means that more young women with talent and ambition can have the life-changing opportunity that a Wenona education provides.â
What a fantastic day, what a turnout and what fantastic community spirit! As Dr Scott said, âIt was good old-fashioned fun!â
Weâve always known our Wenona community is pretty special, but your efforts at the weekend proved it once again. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the Art Show and the Spring Fair such a success. We appreciate your generosity, your hard work and your incredible support.
Thank you!
