It’s time to talk seasons, Woodstock
How do we measure time? Well, Miss Christofa and Ms Peck’s classes have been developing their historical understanding by thinking about the days of the week and the seasons of the southern hemisphere.
It’s all part of a History unit about ‘Past, Present and Future’, using inquiry-based learning and research skills to investigate the concept of time. The wonders of technology have helped to further enhance the students’ knowledge and added to their enjoyment and engagement.
It all started with a Days of the Week scavenger hunt in the Piazza.
Students had to find QR codes displayed on the walls, using their iPads to scan them in order to find out more about the days of the week, the meaning of each word and how to say it in different languages, including Mandarin, French, Italian and Spanish.
Digital Learning Leader Mr Kolbe then joined the students to help them make videos about the months and seasons.
“To showcase the learning and to develop further skills we wanted to make short individual videos.
We chose “Explain Everything” App as our tool with the ability to record interaction, narration, annotation and text in our video.
We started with the basics of how to use Explain Everything and then had a lot of fun learning some more advanced techniques for improving our videos.
The girls created their videos, adding to a project that was already created for the class. It was a very enjoyable session and the outcomes were impressive.”
